Trick arrrr Treat!
[Fiction] Friday Challenge for 31 October 2008:Write from the point of view of a child who went trick-or-treating, then had their parent take away all their candy so they wouldn’t get fat.
I'm only seven yet I have
to watch the scales every day
Mommy says I weigh too much
Daddy's silent, as always
I know nothing's wrong with me
Just her, and her projections
A grown-up word but I know it
they think I'm fat ~and~ stupid
Every Halloween the same old thing
Hand over the candy or you'll be a pig
I don't even have a sweet tooth Mommy
But you make me long for forbidden fruit
So this year I've got me a plan
made my own costume
blood sweat and tears
transform pants and sash
and Daddy's old golfing hat
into a mean pirate
with hidden compartments
to stash
my booty
Trick arrrr Tre-eat
Money arrrr E-eats
gets loads of smiles
and loads of eats
half of which
I squirrel away
into this pocket
and that
so when I reach home
the right amount of protest I raise
as I hand over my pumpkin pail
and pretend to sulk
stomp up to my room
where I
empty my pockets
stash the treasure
behind books
in the closet
dusty nooks and crannies
I know Mommy never cleans
One a day
a different one each time
I will get
to savor
without her disapproval
to turn it into ashes
like before
That'll teach her
I think I'll have one now.

That was great! Wonderful use of the prompt!
It was a tough prompt and for those of us who have gone through this a bit of pain.. happy halloween - if you celebrate it - we have just had a rocking one here.
This made me so sad. Great write though!
Sometimes it's too true!
Happy Halloween to all.
Wow! That was a great poem for a response to the prompt. I like the pirate talk from the girl, and also that she's astute enough to realize that it's really her mother's problem and she's not really fat!!
